In honor of the 2018 Alice Award Shortlist, join Sharon Helgason Gallagher, President and Executive Director of ARTBOOK and of D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers, Inc., in conversation with David Chickey, Publisher and Creative Director, Radius Books, Paula Cooper, 192 Books, and John Donatich, Director of Yale University Press as they discuss the challenges, the opportunities, and the role of nonprofit publishers in the contemporary publishing environment.

The Shortlist: Debi Cornwall: Welcome to Camp America, Inside Guantánamo Bay (Radius Books); “O’er the Wide and Tractless Sea”: Original Art of the Yankee Whale Hunt (New Bedford Whaling Museum); Visual Voyages: Images of Latin American Nature from Columbus to Darwin (Yale University Press).

This event is sponsored by the Alice, an award inaugurated by Furthermore grants in publishing, a program of the J. M. Kaplan Fund. The Alice is awarded annually to an illustrated book that represents excellence in all aspects of the work – from idea to the quality of the production. The Alice carries a $25,000 award, with $5,000 given for each of the shortlisted books. Furthermore, founded by Joan K. Davidson in 1995, has contributed over $5 million dollars to nearly 1,200 nonprofit publishing projects since it was founded in 1995.
