“These pieces are unique dynamic cyanotypes made in freezing landscapes from Walden Pond (MA) to the Great Lakes to remote rivers in Washington and Colorado. As water freezes, ice crystals, debris from the landscape, and marks from the elements physically inscribe into the photographic chemistry. In response to my Ice work, Rebecca Solnit wrote Seven Sentences On The Frozen and The Fluid, an essay that is comprised of seven lengthy sentences that touch on fluidity, cultural uses of blue, the landscape, photography, freezing, and time. For the work I am releasing in support of the book Ice, I have extracted titles from Solnit’s writing; each title is a fragment of a larger story and each piece is a fingerprint of a moment and place in time, extracted as a photographic print.” —Meghann Riepenhoff
