Stacks
“The idea for these photoencaustic paintings began as I witnessed the mounting stacks of pages at EBS Press in Verona, where my Radius book 108 was being printed. Horizontal marks continued to shift with the addition of new pages and imperfect stacking. Shades of black and white flowed downward on edges of papers that later were trimmed, cut and bound.” — Catherine Eaton Skinner
Stacks is a new group of work in the Accumulations series, exploring the possibilities of the horizontal line:
Landscapes of the boundary between sky and ocean
Distant perspectives of desert and open land
Layers of water frozen into ice
Strata of earth walls with subtle seeps of mineral laden watermarks
Ombre shading and the natural variation of wool color in indigenous textiles
Seismic wave lengths and the tracking of heart rhythms
100% rag paper mounted on wood panel, encaustic wax, and oil stick.
