Debbie Fleming Caffery’s solo show, “Fantasmas”, is opening this month in the Parisian Galerie Camera Obscura. The exhibition features black-and-white photographs which combine a mystic, romantic atmosphere with a sharply contrasted play of negative space. True to the name of the exhibit, (“Ghosts”, in Spanish), the work contains an element of the Victorian practice of spirit photography, in that photography can capture a world beyond the naked eye. The images seem to pulsate with life—the camera’s hold on the moment feels tenuous at best.
The show will close March 13th, 2010. Debbie’s most recent monograph, The Spirit and The Flesh was published by Radius Books in 2009.
