Back when the New York art scene was still considered the only show in town, the California Abstract Movement was striking out on its own, creating work with an emphasis on bright color, mark-making and dimension. Since then, the artists involved have steadily grown in prominence—as has Los Angeles, now one of the world’s leading art and cultural meccas.
This month, LA Contemporary will highlight a few of these seminal artists in a group show entitled Abstract on Abstract. The exhibition will feature work from the late 80’s to the present by Californian abstract artists Ed Moses, Charles Arnoldi, James Hayward and David Lloyd. The show opens April 10th and will run until May 15th, 2010.
Charlotte Jackson Fine Art, without whose support the book would have been impossible, launched an exhibition of Arnoldi’s work in Santa Fe on November 7th. Here are a couple photographs from the opening.
David Chickey was on press in Italy this summer overseeing the printing of Charles Arnoldi’s recently-released Radius Books monograph. It is a stunning tome on the career of an important Southern California artist, and we’re excited for it to his these shores! These are a few shots from the Mondadori printing plant in lovely Verona.
