Advance copies of Ed Moses have arrived this week. This is, surprisingly, the first major monograph on this revered and legendary Venice-based painter. Known lovingly as The Mutator, Ed Moses first began showing with Ferus Gallery in the late 50s and quickly became lodged in the Southern Caliornia art scene, exhibiting over the years with Riko Mizuno, Margo Leavin Gallery, and L. A. Louver. His most recent show with Frank Lloyd and Greenfield Sacks Galleries met with wide critical acclaim.
The book features essays by Barbara Haskell and Francis Colpitt, along with brief interviews by eight artists and curators who have been close to Ed’s work over the years, including Ed Ruscha, Paul Schimmel, Barbara Rose, Nancy Rubens and Chris Burden. The book is hardbound with a printed acetate jacket, and is a survey of the artists’ 50+ career. The retail price is $65; a signed copy is $75.
